Open terminal and simply type the following command:
$ sudo bash
Then, enter your password.
Another pkg manager are running.
Try to kill or stop those processes.
Use apt-cache
>apt-cache search stringtosearch
Ubuntu automatically mount hard and usb drives.
Their mount points are under
/media/
